The Pothole Hotline and Pothole Contest Return

March 20, 2007

It’s spring, which means it’s time for this year’s Pothole Hotline Contest.  The 2007 program kicks off on March 22nd, and for five weeks will award a prize each week to the City of Golden resident that reports the biggest pothole.  It’s a light-hearted way to draw attention to a serious problem, and the hotline helps our Public Works Department find all of the potholes in need of repair.  The largest pothole I remember from last year was 24” x 30”, but with all the storms and freeze-thaw we’ve had I suspect there are some larger ones out there just waiting to be reported.  The Public Works folks’ goal is to patch the pothole within 48 hours of being reported (so long as the weather cooperates).  To report a pothole, call 303-215-8882 x2901.

Patching Golden’s Streets

January 14, 2007

As a result of the severe weather over the past few weeks, the city hired an asphalt contractor to begin patching damage The long-term patches require hot mix asphalt, but because it’s not available this time of year we rely on cold mix patches to tide us over until the spring. City crews have been cutting ice, opening drainages for melting snow, plowing, and then starting to do the pothole work. The freeze-thaw temperatures we’ve been having (although not during this sub-freezing spell, of course) is perfect pothole-creation weather.

To report potholes please call Ron Reavis at 303-384-8155.

Pothole Hotline Contest

April 7, 2006

I believe next week is the last week of the city’s 2006 Pothole Hotline Contest. Every week the Public Works Department awards a prize to the person reporting the largest pothole that week. The largest pothole as of the beginning of this week was 24” x 30”, which seems rather large to me.

I think the biggest challenge with potholes for staff is just knowing where they are, which is the reason for both the pothole hotline and the contest. Even after the contest ends, city staff aim to repair potholes quickly after they are reported.

To report a pothole (and possibly win a prize if you do it by the end of next week) just call 303-215-8882 x2901 or go to the city’s Pothole Reporting web page and follow the “Pothole Reporting” button.
